Biography
Claudio Benedetto Maggi received his education at the University of Pisa and the Scuola Normale Superiore as a student of modern literature. During his undergraduate years, his interests primarily focused on philology and the history of the Italian language, particularly on the study of unpublished works of dialectal literature. For his bachelor’s and master’s theses, he prepared editions and commentaries, with a special emphasis on linguistic aspects, of the Venetian comedy Il Lippa overo el Pantalon burlao (1673) by Domenico Balbi (supervisor: Prof. Eva Marinai) and the heroicomic poem in Genoese dialect Ro viaggio de Venexa (1655) by Giuliano Rossi (supervisors: Profs. Roberta Cella and Marco Maggiore). Both these projects stemmed from annual discussions at SNS under the guidance of Prof. Luca D’Onghia. He also explored the study of dialects from a synchronic perspective for his SNS Licentiate Thesis: Agreement of the Predicative Clitic in the Local Italian and Dialect of La Spezia (supervisor: Prof. Michele Loporcaro).
